SHILLONG: Meghalaya registered two more COVID-19 deaths, 121 new cases and 107 recoveries during the last 24 hours. As on date, while the total active cases are 1,355; the total recovered cases in Meghalaya are now 1,823. The State has so far registered 19 casualties due to COVID-19. informed Director of Health Services (MI), Dr Aman Warr.
Referring to the two new casualties related to coronavirus, Dr Warr informed that while one patient died on Tuesday; the other death was registered on Wednesday morning.
"On Tuesday night, a person identified as Usha Paul (58) of Laban was brought dead to Nazareth Hospital at around 7:40 pm. She was tested for COVID-19 and was found to be positive. The deceased had a history of hypertension and diabetes," said Dr Warr.
The other casualty was reported at around 6:40 am on Wednesday. The deceased identified as Debu Paul of Abbas Compound, Qualapatty was admitted in the hospital earleirt during the day. The patient also had co morbidities like hypertension and was a diabetic.
Dr Warr further said that of the 121 new cases, East Jaintia Hills recorded the most with 59, followed by East Khasi Hills with 30 cases (Armed and paramilitary forces: two; civilians: 28; West Garo Hills: 25 (Armed and paramilitary forces: 11; civilians:14); South Garo Hills: four; Ri-Bhoi two (Armed and paramilitary forces: one; civilian: one); and West Khasi Hills: one civilian.
The district-wise breakup of the active cases are as follows: East Khasi Hills: 860 (Armed and paramilitary forces: 152; civilians: 708); West Garo Hills: 193 (Armed and paramilitary forces: 97; civilians: 96); Ri-Bhoi (Armed and paramilitary forces: 31; civilians: 86); East Jaintia Hills: 85; West Khasi Hills: 31; East Garo Hills: 23; South Garo Hills: 20; West Jaintia Hills: 11; North Garo Hills: nine; South West Garo Hills: five; and South West Khasi Hill: one.
Of the 107 new recovered cases, East Khasi Hills recorded 88, followed by West Garo Hills (five), East Jaintia Hills (four), and North Garo Hills (four), besides two cases each from Ri-Bhoi, South West Garo Hills, and East Garo Hills districts.
The number of sample reports awaited is high because the testing centre at Pastuer Institute, Shillong remained closed on Saturday and Sunday. Dr Warr informed that certain equipments were to be fitted in the new machines, and all the samples had to be sent to North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS). As on date, the number of samples whose report is awaited are as follows: Pastuer Institute: 583; NEIGRIHMS: 550; and Tura Civil Hospital: 120. The number of samples sent for testing till date are 1,04,090. The samples which tested negative are 99,640; and results of 1,253 reports are still awaited.
The number of people who have entered the State till date are 34,399.
Dr Warr also informed that under PM-CARE, another testing centre has been proposed to be set up at Civil Hospital in Shillong.
