SHILLONG: Meghalaya recorded 53 new COVID-19 cases during the last 24 hours, informed the Director of Health Services (MI), Dr Aman Warr on Monday.

Of these fresh cases, while East Khasi Hills district recorded 12 cases (one is from the armed forces and 11 others are civilians); West Garo Hills registered 39 cases (29 are from Border Security Force (BSF) personnel and 10 are civilians).

Dr Warr also stated that Meghalaya recorded eight recoveries during the last 24 hours. Of these, three are from East Khasi Hills and five are from West Garo Hills taking the total recovered cases of the State to 498.

The number of samples sent for testing till Monday afternoon are 41,734. Of these, while results of 39,785 are negative, results of 834 samples are being awaited.

Meanwhile, till Monday, the State has recorded 611 active cases. East Khasi Hills has 428 cases out of which 91 are from the BSF, 268 are civilians and 69 are from the armed forces; West Khasi Hills has six cases; Ri-Bhoi: 85; West Jaintia Hills: 15; East Jaintia Hills: six; West Garo Hills: 65; and two each from South West Garo Hills, South Garo Hills and North Garo Hills.
