Shillong: Several parts of the Meghalaya capital city Shillong have been submerged after heavy showers as these parts are witnessing waterlogging.
The incessant rain since Thursday morning has caused water accumulation and the worst affected areas are Polo, Ranikor, Nongstoin, and Smit.
There have also been reports of floods from Mawryngkneng, Nongkrem and Nohron areas in the East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya.
Apart from these, numerous villages near Shillong city in the East and West Khasi Hills districts of the state have also been affected by the floods.
Notably, due to these scenarios, the regular movements of traffic and transportation have been affected.
However, the havoc caused by rain is likely to continue as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday had predicted heavy rainfalls over Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh from 11 to 15 May 2022.
The weather forecasting agency further predicted heavy rainfalls over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura on the 11th, 13th, and 14th.
''Isolated heavy to very heavy falls very likely over Assam-Meghalaya during 11th to 15th May 2022. Isolated heavy falls very likely over Arunachal Pradesh on 12th & 15th and isolated heavy to very heavy falls on 13th & 14th May 2022,'' IMD tweeted on Wednesday.
