State Chief Secretary MS Rao issued an order to be followed by entities, organizations, or associations related to tourism who wish to re-open to ensure safety, sanitization, and social distancing.

Meghalaya Government has decided to reopen its tourist places for tourists from within the State from October 16.

Meghalaya Chief Secretary MS Rao in an order stated that strict safety, sanitization, and all COVID-19 protocols will be enforced. Further, there is has to be strict adherence to the social distancing protocols issued by the Health & Family Welfare Department, Government of Meghalaya.

The order also stated that the entities, organizations, associations that wish to re-open such places should consult their respective Deputy Commissioner confirming adherence to the SoP. The DC will then ensure strict compliance to the guidelines through periodic inspections and regulate the schedule and timing depending on the local situation and to meet the social distancing norms.

Earlier in September, three tourist spots- Ward's Lake, Elephant Falls, and Lum Nehru Park were opened on a trial basis.
