SHILLONG: A total of three people died because of a road accident in the East Khasi Hills district of the state of Meghalaya on Monday. Two more people were injured in the same accident.

The accident took place around midnight in the East Khasi Hills District of the state as a truck moving from Pynursla town towards Laitlyngkot fall into a deep gorge. All the ill-fated people were in the same truck which was involved in the accident. One of the people involved was able to move out of the damaged vehicle and call the police for help.

He was later shifted to the Shillong Civil Hospital for medical care. The police were also able to recover three dead bodies from the debris of the truck later.

Previously in the early hours of Monday, tragedy struck on Assam's Barpeta Road when a vehicle carrying a group of Bol-Bom devotees collided with a speeding dumper, raising concerns about road safety in religious processions and gatherings. Fortunately, despite the severity of the impact, no severe injuries were reported in the incident. The collision caused significant damage to the devotees' vehicle, prompting swift action from local authorities. The police promptly arrived at the scene and took control of the situation, providing much-needed assistance to the affected devotees and ensuring their well-being. Simultaneously, the dumper responsible for the accident was immediately seized by the police for further investigation.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of adhering to road safety regulations and exercising caution, especially during religious processions and gatherings.
