Minister James K Sangma inaugurates DIPR building in Shillong

SHILLONG: Meghalaya Minister in charge of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) James K Sangma has asked the DIPR department to upgrade itself according to the emerging dynamics of information dissemination. The Minister made this observation while inaugurating the new building of the DIPR here on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the newly innagarated DIPR building — contructed at an amount of approximately Rs 10 crore — is expected to be a landmark within the periphery of Lachumiere in particular and the Shillong city as a whole.

Reminding the DIPR officials of their crucial roles in providing information to the people in different formats, Sangma stated, "The DIPR has a crucial role to play. It should highlight various schemes initiated and implemented by the government through different agencies."

He added, "With the changing times and evolving dynamics at all levels, we need to upscale our service delivery system."

Stating that emergence of the social media has brought about new challenges as well as opportunities to governance, the Minister, however, felt that reforms have to effected in a phased manner in order to ensure sustainability in the long run.

He stressed the need to ensure that the traditional forms of infomation dessimination is strengthened along with the new forms of knowledge dissemination.
