SHILLONG: Six MLAs within the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government on Monday formed a combined alliance christened as “United Progressive Front” (UPF) with an intention to further strengthen the present government.
The MLA include four from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDF) Banteidor Lyngdoh, Hamletson Dohling, Jeson S Mawlong and Gavin Myllimngap, one independent MLA Lambor Malangniang and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Saleng A Sangma also submitted a letter to the Deputy Speaker of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Timothy D Shira to notify the formation of the front at the Assembly.
However, because the Deputy Speaker was not in Shillong, the MLAs submitted the letter to the Joint secretary of Meghalaya Legislative Assembly at the office chamber of the Deputy Speaker.
Speaking to reporters Banteidor Lyngdoh after submitting the letter the purpose of forming this alliance under UPF to strengthen the government and to discuss on various developmental projects of the state which requires immediate attention.
“This alliance is also for the benefit of all the MLAs as if they face any problems all the MLAs within the alliance will stand together and approach the government as a delegation,” he said.
When, asked, he said that present the Front has yet to decide on the leader of the alliance however this is just the start but soon we will have discussion on this matter.
Meanwhile, Hamlet Dongling, Minister of Urban Affairs said,” With the formation of this alliance we will ensure that the MDA government led by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma will last it full term.”
