SHILLONG: The Department of Economics, Commerce and Management, Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU), organized its 1st National Conference on the "The Rise of Digitization in Business/Organizations - a Boon or a Bane', held on March 3 and 4, through a blended mode of both online and offline participation.
This Conference was organized as part of the university's continued celebration and commemoration the 75th year of Independence of our country and 50th year Statehood of Meghalaya.
Over the two days' event, deep insights, perspectives and reservations on the theme were put forth and discussed by the speakers and paper presenters.
The inaugural day saw presentations from keynote speakers and guest speakers such as Dr S Victor Anandkumar, Professor, Department of Management Studies, Pondicherry University, who spoke on the Application of Artificial Intelligence in Marketing and provided an analysis on the risk and rewards of digitization in business and organizations.
Dr (Ms) Wandinecia Tariang, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics, NEHU, dwelt on digitization and its impact on the Economy. Dr Tariang discussed the Digital Revolution that started since 1960 with the introduction of the PC and internet.
She also pointed out that intense digitization has changed the way we live, work and relate to one another and it has also changed Human Development itself.
Dr Sunildro LS Akoijam, Assistant Professor, Department of Management Studies, NEHU Tura campus, elaborated on the stages of digitization and stressed that digitization is becoming crucial for organization in order to survive, remain relevant and to win competitive advantage.
Gavin Shullai, Programme Manager 1917 iTeams, Government of Meghalaya, shared about how digitization in agriculture has created new possibilities. He cited few examples, such as the use of drones and cameras that can capture areas suitable for plantation, measure PH level, humidity, soil nutrients, deploy fertilizers and organic manure.
The conference was also attended by the Dr Glenn C Kharkongor, Chancellor MLCU; Prof (Ms) TK Kharbamon, Vice-Chancellor MLCU; Dr (Ms) Iwamon WJ Laloo, Registrar, MLCU; Deans and Heads of the various departments and students of the university.
