Shillong: Punjab Police has cautioned people about a video which purportedly talks about atrocities carried out against the Sikh community in Meghalaya. Urging citizens to refrain from liking, commenting or sharing this video, to avoid any unrest in the society, the Punjab Police twitter handle stated, “This is to confirm that this is not a genuine news & situation is absolutely peaceful in the North East, which has also been confirmed by Meghalaya’s ADGP Law & Order.”
According to the Punjab Police, an incident similar to this had been reported in North East more than a year back and action as per law had been taken.
Meanwhile, Meghalaya police said that when the video went viral in Punjab they were approached by their counterparts about its authenticity.
The state police said that on the direction of its Director General of Police (DGP), R Chandranathan it will register a case against those involved in circulating the fake video.
“We will not let this rumour monger go unpunished,” SDPO Sadar, Jagpal Singh Dhanoa said.
According to the SDPO, the person, who made the video, referred to Rajnath Singh as the Home Minister which is not the case now since the Home Minister is Amit Shah.
