SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Peoples Human Rights Council (MPHRC) has expressed its deep sense of shock and sorrow over the sudden and untimely demise of the Archbishop of Shillong, (Late) Rev Dominic Jala. “As a leading religious scholar, he is known for his engagement for social justice, protection of the environment and for promoting the culture of human rights through his liturgical competence” said Dino DG Dympep, Chairman MPHRC.

“He will be remembered as a very friendly and humble person; for his intellectual strength and for his strong and genuine conviction and ability to engage people. The Catholic communities in the State have lost a great religious leader and his legacy of caring for others will hopefully be emulated by many of us” the MPHRC said.

The MPHRC also expressed its condolences to the members and relatives of the bereaved family and the Shillong Archdiocese.
