KOHIMA: The Prime Minister attacked the Indian National Congress while addressing an election rally in Dimapur on Friday ahead of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly polls which will take place on February 27.

Previous Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio felicitated prime minister Narendra Modi ahead of his public address at Agri Expo, Chümoukedima. Multiple senior leaders of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party and Bharatiya Janata Party took part in the election rally of Chumoukedima. The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party and Bharatiya Janata Party had entered in a pre-poll alliance wherein the former has posted forty candidates and the latter has put in 20 candidates of their own.

Taking a jibe at the Indian National Congress said that while the Bharatiya Janata Party treats the Northeastern states as the Asta Lakshmi or eight forms of the Goddess Laxmi, the Indian National Congress used to treat the region as its ATM. He also mentioned that the Bharatiya Janata Party along with its coalition partners is working hard to promote lasting peace and continued development in the entire region.

Speaking at the election rally, the prime minister also mentioned that the Bharita Janta Party-led National Democratic Alliance is stiving to ensure permanent peace in the region so that the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act can be completely repelled from the state of Nagaland.

"The country can't be run by distrusting your own people but by respecting and solving their problems. Earlier, the Northeast had politics of divide, we have now transformed it into divine governance. The BJP does not discriminate people on the basis of religion or region and religion," Narendra Modi mentioned during the election rally.

During the rally, the prime minister expressed his firm assertion on the three mantras adopted for the development of Nagaland and they are Peace, Progress and Prosperity.
