SHILLONG: The Meghalaya State Youth Policy is expected to be rolled out in the month of January, 2021 and will be implemented in the next financial year. The Meghalaya Department of Sports & Youth Affairs organized an interactive session on the policy at the State Convention Centre here on Saturday.

Addressing the gathering through video conferencing, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma stated that the policy will act as a podium for the youths of the State to interact with the government and also to share their views and opinions in taking the State forward.

He also stated that the policy reflects the government's objectives and the youth's interest and also incorporates various aspects including sports, education and entrepreneurship among others.

Commissioner & Secretary, Sports & Youth Affairs Department, Dr. Vijay Kumar D said that Meghalaya is among the top States in the country with a large youth population and with 65% of the population of the State under 35 years of age, the need for a Youth Policy is eminent, he also stated. He also said that the policy will act as a forum for training and skilling the youth of the State.

The 'Meghalaya Youth Survey Portal' was launched by the Chief Minister and three prominent sportspersons from the Khasi, Jaintia and Garo hills of the State, namely, Jidalin Tympuin from West Khasi Hills District, Batsrang Sangma from West Garo Hills District and Sunday Morning Tariang from West Jaintia Hills District were awarded with the Chief Minister's Sportspersons of the Month award.
