SHILLONG: The Border Security Force (BSF) apart from maintaining the sanctity of border and guarding it around the clock, also carries out various social and humanistic tasks.

Preventing cattle smuggling in the border is one of the indispensable roles that the BSF carries out. In this effort, the BSF encountered challenges in managing the seized cattle due to lack of infrastructure, sustenance and wherewithal.

This problem of stranded cattle began in December 2018 when the Customs Department stopped taking over the seized cattle after orders from the Supreme Court.

Fortunately, various organizations and societies have been offering aid to these stranded seized cattle.

This time, it is 'Hariman Prabhat Feri Mandal Shillong' — a society of the Marwari community who extended help by donating 30 bags of brown rice on Jan 5, 2020 for the cattle kept under custody of 30 Bn BSF under the stewardship of J.P. Agarwal, head of the Society. He also promised to continue such help in the future also.

PRO BSF Meghalaya DIG U.K. Nayal has appreciated the effort of this Society, added the release.
