Shillong: There is no deadline for the citizens of the State to enrol themselves under the Meghalaya Health Insurance Scheme phase four (MHIS-4). Amidst the worries of the people who failed to get themselves registered in the various static locations throughout the State, Additional Chief Secretary in-charge of Health and Family Welfare Peter W Ingti allayed all the apprehensions of those who could not make it at those centres during the time fixed by the government.
“Those were facilitation centres when we kickstarted the new phase but the registration will go on and there is no deadline for the registration”, stated Ingti during an interview with The Sentinel on Tuesday. While there were glitches during registration in some centres, the Additional Chief Secretary said that the department is trying to improve the networking process and make other corrections in order to meet the needs of the people.
The scheme is an initiative where MHIS is converge with the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojna where a citizen can avail treatment benefits upto Rs 5 lakh in any empanelled hospitals in and outside the State. So far, around 6 lakh people have enrolled themselves under the scheme. Unlike the MHIS-3 where certain ailments were not covered, Ingti informed that the MHIS-4 package is different and it will cover almost all diseases.
