NTCP conducts training on COTPA for police officers in Williamnagar

 WILLIAMNAGAR: The National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP) of the Department of Health, Meghalaya, in collaboration with Sambandh Health Foundation (SHF), conducted training on the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) and law enforcement for police officers and personnel of East Garo Hills at DRDA Hall in Williamnagar on Wednesday. Dr. Lana Nongbri, NTCP State Nodal Officer; Dr. Barkarine R. Marak, District Nodal Officer; Dr. Siddhart K. Sangma of Tura Christian Hospital; and Pramod Kumar of Sambandh Health Foundation highlighted the provisions of COTPA during the day-long programme.

The Superintendent of Police, Siddhart Kumar Ambedkar, also participated in the programme and urged the police officers and personnel to take active participation in safeguarding future generations from the harmful effects of tobacco products. The day-long programme consisted of both theory and practical, and on the day, after the training session, the officers of the police department booked a total of 21 offenders. The police department will be conducting such drives in Songsak and Rongjeng C&RD Blocks also, and a meeting with the Bazar Committee and Nokmas will be held in Rongjeng on July 7., stated a press release.
