One hacked to death after suspecting of practising witchcraft in North Garo Hills

SHILLONG: A villager in North Garo Hills (NGH) district hacked his neighbour to death after suspecting him of practising witchcraft.

The incident took place in the village of Dengnanggre near Achotchongre under Bajengdoba Police Station on Friday. According to police, the suspect -- identified as Henathson A Sangma -- accused the victim, Daren Marak, of practising witchcraft. Sangma then attacked the victim with an axe and hacked him to death.

"We arrested the accused yesterday after the incident, and an investigation into the murder is currently on," said NGH Superintendent of Police, Abraham T Sangma, adding that the suspect did not have any accomplices.
