Orientation programme for PhD scholars at USTM

RI BHOI: “Research must be useful for society. Honesty, integrity, objectivity, and respect for confidentiality are a few of the important qualities of a researcher,” Dr Kandarpa Kumar Saikia, Department of Bioengineering and Technology, Gauhati University said when he was addressing an orientation programme for PhD scholars at the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya on Wednesday. The orientation was also addressed by Dr Anjan Bhuyan, Department of Business Administration, Tezpur University, apart from others.

Welcoming the participants, Prof GD Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, USTM said, “Our resources are not exploited because of the lack of proper research. USTM offers multi-disciplinary study opportunities, and research scholars here are free to avail themselves of very many facilities.”

Addressing the scholars, Dr Anjan Bhuyan said, “We need dedicated research for people and development. Research scholars should not have prejudices that certain things cannot be done. Everything is possible.”

The orientation session was also addressed by Dr BK Das, Pro-Vice Chancellor, USTM and Dr RK Sharma, Advisor, USTM. A brief session on PhD Examination, Rules &Regulations was taken by Dr Nurujjaman Laskar, Controller of Examinations and Admissions, USTM. All the deans of various schools at USTM addressed the students with introductory notes. The vote of thanks was given by Dr AH Barbhuiya, Academic Registrar, USTM.

Later, the resource persons visited the respective departments and interacted with supervisors convened by the respective Heads of various Departments, stated a press release.
