Shillong: As many as 1,000 houses were damaged in Meghalaya's Ri Bhoi district in the cyclonic storms that hit parts of the northeast on Thursday.
As per reports, so far, no casualties have been reported despite severe storms. However, initial reports claimed that around 47 villages were affected.
"Prima facie, 47 villages in the district were affected in the storm from where the damages to houses were reported," the official was quoted by PTI as saying.
Apart from these, government properties like Block Development Officer (BDO) office, a school, a public works department office and veterinary offices were reported to be destroyed in the storm.
Following the havoc, all concerned departments have been deployed for clearance and restoration works in the affected villages.
