SHILLONG: The Minister of Agriculture Banteidor Lyngdoh has informed that and arrangement has been made with farmers association that they can avail passes for their transport vehicles from the Directorate of Agriculture, however this time the issuing of passes will be scrutinized property compared to last year as COVID-19 cases are on an increasing trend.

"Right now we are not issuing passes to everyone but we conduct checking and issue the pass only to those people who are genuine farmers," Lyngdoh said while speaking to The Sentinel.

He also informed that the department would also seek information from the local dorbar to identify of the person is a farmer of their village before issuing the pass, hence this year it's very strick.

He further said that the reason for being cautious in issuing the passes is because of the present COVID-19 situation in the state as the number of active cases and death each day is increasing.

When asked, he said, "Farmers including vegetable sellers should not take COVID-19 lightly as it has also penetrated into rular parts of the state," he said.

He urged the farmers and those form rural parts of the state to maintain and follow the guidelines and protocols issued by the government and health department.
