People’s Democratic Front Decision on Bypolls Soon

SHILLONG: The People’s Democratic Front (PDF), a partner within the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA), will soon take a decision whether to contest the by-election from Shella constituency after the demise of Dr Donkupar Roy.

It may be reminded that in the last Assembly polls in 2018, PDF candidate Leston Wanswett was defeated by a small margin of just around 300 votes by Dr Donkupar Roy.

In this connection, speaking to The Sentinel, PDF leader and Minister of Agriculture Banteidor Lyngdoh said, “As of right now we have yet to have any discussion on this matter. However, soon we will call a meeting on this subject.”

He said that until now the party has not had any discussion with partners within the MDA government to support UDP in the by-election at Shella as a mark of respect to late Dr Donkupar Roy who was the Speaker of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly.
