SHILLONG: Come November 4 and Autumn will change the face of Shillong in days and night alike, a couple of weeks before the capital city falls in the grip of pinching cold.
Now the focal point of attraction is none other than the bank of the Umian Lake where the Hills Festival is scheduled from November 4 to 5 this year. The local communities in Meghalaya are gearing up to showcase their traditional art, music, cuisines and what not, in the 2 days annual festival.
The detailed schedule is expected very soon, even as the organizers are busy with the preparations to make the autumn event a grand success.
A series of colourful events are lined up for the event, much to the encouragement of the local performing artists and entrepreneurs in the north eastern state.
Being organized by an independent company called HYPE - Helping Young People Entertainment, Meghalaya, the two days event aims at promoting the tourism front with a big push to local art, culture and entrepreneurship. According to the organizers, it will further involve the youths in promoting tourism which finally might help them earn likelihood. This year the event will mainly focus on eco tourism and community empowerment in the state of Meghalaya.
Visitors from home and abroad will find it, in fact, amazing to see the mythical tales of the local communities in Meghalaya.
The participants have already agreed to ensure the stalls are constructed with recycled materials. This would be a relevant message of a green initiative to make the surroundings more beautiful. The organizers are already in touch with the artists from outside to ensure their participation.
Local entrepreneurs are preparing to reap rich benefits as the event would empower them and benefit them while showcasing their talents in art, culture and food. They would get a platform in the festival to hold interactive sessions with the outside artists and entrepreneurs.
