Prestone Tynsong Apprised of Rural Scene In East Jaintia Hills

SHILLONG: A delegation led by former MLAs Hopeful Bamon and Stephan Mukhim along with social activist Kynjaimon Amse and his delegation met Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong where several issues pertaining to rural development in East Jaintia Hills were discussed and deliberated.

In the meeting, Tynsong was apprised about the bad condition of the Rymbai-Bataw-Borkhat-Sonapur road which has affected the lives of the people living in Hingaria, Huroi, Lahalein and Lejri villages to a very large extent.

The delegation had also informed the Deputy Chief Minister that the matter was earlier taken up with the Chief Minister of Meghalaya and also informed him that there has been undue delay in construction of the road.

The delegation also informed that the High Court of Meghalaya has taken strong cognizance of the matter.

Amse informed that after the intervention of the High Court, the issue for construction of the road has been speeded up by both the PWD and NEC.

“We apprised the Deputy Chief Minister that the DPR prepared by the PWD Roads have been accepted by the NEC, Shillong,” Amse said.

According to him, the NEC, Shillong have forwarded the Draft SFC Memo of Rymbai-Bataw-Borkhat-Sonapur Road (Length – 39.25 km) at the estimated cost of Rs 123.28 crore under the NERSDS to the Joint Secretary (NEC), Ministry of DONER, New Delhi for approval of the DONER Ministry and now the project is pending for approval by the government of India.

“We have submitted a memorandum in this regard to the Deputy Chief Minister where we have strongly urged him and the government of Meghalaya to take up the matter with Jitendar Singh, Minister of State (Independent Charge) I/c Ministry of DONER and also the Prime Minister’s Office for speedy approval of the project by the DONER ministry which once approved will benefit the people to a very large extend,” Amse stated.

According to him, Tynsong informed them that the State Government has taken up this matter very seriously and a committee was also formed to look after the same.

He informed the delegation that several rounds of meeting have been conducted for this project and also said that all formalities for approving the project is almost complete and also told that the project is sure to get the stamp of approval and sanction by DoNER Ministry.

Besides the above important issue, the delegation also took the chance of discussing several other issues which needs urgent attention of the State Government.

“We have submitted a detailed memorandum to the Deputy Chief Minister for the construction and development of three roads which include the Lum Myrli-Wah Umpasu Road, Umkiang Pahar Road and the Jowai-Amlarem road,” Amse informed.

The delegation also discussed and submitted a written representation to Tynsong about the non-availability of mobile and internet connectivity in the border villages of East Jaintia Hills district which includes Hingaria, Huroi, Lahalein and Lejri and prayed for his intervention on this matter.

The delegation also discussed with the Deputy Chief Minister about the need to provide electricity by way of grid system through the MeECL to the border villages of Huroi, Hingaria, Lahalein and Lejri as the off grid solar equipment is not helping the public so much.

“The issue of irregular supply of electricity to villages in Narpuh Elaka, was also discussed and deliberated. We have requested the deputy chief minister to take action on the issue raised by us which will benefit the rural population,” Amse said.
