SHILLONG. Demanding a total overhaul of the entire education system in Meghalaya, the HITO (Hynniewtrep Integrated Territorial Organization) on Tuesday submitted a memorandum to Education Minister Lakmen Rymbui.
Expressing its concern especially over the state of affairs in the Lower Primary (LP) and Upper Primary (UP) schools in West Khasi Hills district, the organization said that it is high time that steps are taken to change the sector for the welfare of the students and the community at large.
The HITO further raised questions on the process of appointment and posting of assistant teachers in the government-run LP and UP schools. It said that the people of the district are not happy at the mismatch in the PTR (Pupil-Teachers Ratio). It tantamounts to the violation of right ot education of the students, added the organization.
Stating that there are schools with insufficient teachers and also schools with excess teachers in the district, the organization demanded a probe into the appointment process of the teachers.
