SHILLONG: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) has demanded that the State government must restrict the entry of people from other States following the surge in the number of COVID-19 cases in Meghalaya, said HYC general secretary Roykupar Synrem here on Thursday.
He alleged that many people from other States have obtained passes from various departments including that of Agriculture and Horticulture to enter the different districts in the name of buying and selling of vegetables and other items. "Such action will only pose a serious threat to the people of the State," Roy pointed out.
To contain the spread of COVID-19, the HYC leader said that the government must conduct mass in each and every village. "We are very much concerned to witness the rise in the number of positive cases across the State despite the efforts put in by the government, traditional Dorbars, NGOs and others who are involved in the fight against this pandemic," he said.
