Shillong: The Ri Bhoi police are on the lookout for the president of the (KSU) Khasi Students Union (North Khasi Hills district) Ferdinand Kharkamni for his alleged involvement in assaulting a head constable inside the Umilm police station. The genesis of the story is that on the night of October 15 there was a reported scuffle between two people.

Speaking to The Sentinel on Monday, Superintendent of Police (SP) Ri-Bhoi district, C Syrti said that the scuffle which was a minor issue turned out to be serious. “When our men picked up the two individuals and took them to the police station, the person who identified himself as the president of KSU Ferdinand Kharkamni, questioned the logic of the detention.”

“The minor issue that turned serious is the assault on the police head constable by the KSU activist inside the police station and in front of the officer in charge”, stated Syrti, adding, “An FIR has also been lodged by the head constable of the police station”.

Asked on the possible action of the police, Syrti said, “We have already registered a case against him and we will have to arrest him.” He further said that they are on a look out at the KSU activist who is allegedly involved in landing blows at the man in uniform and right inside the police station.
