Sanbor Shullai: Containment area residents aren't getting government aid

SHILLONG: BJP MLA from South Shillong constituency Sanbor Shullai, on Saturday, alleged that the authorities concerned have failed to tackle various issues concerning COVID-19 in the State. Shullai made the statement after delivering ration assistance to around 100 households residing at Zigzag Road area in Laban which has been declared as containment zones. He also donated Rs 15,000 to the Dorbar Shnong.

"The Health department has failed because these areas which are under containment zones are not receiving any assistance and no immediate random testing is being carried out of all residents in these zones," he pointed out.

He further said that the residents staying in these areas are facing difficulties as they can't buy ration; and some of them don't even have the means to buy anything as they are daily wage earners. They have not been able to go out for work for a week now.

"These people can get home-delivered supplies from the local shops; however, they still need to pay for their groceries. What is more touching is that many among them are running out of funds. Life has become difficult for them. Hence there are lots of things yet to be done," he said. Shullai also pointed out that as the government is not giving any ration to the residents in the containment areas, he has come forward to provide assistance from his own salary to these suffering public in his constituency.
