Section 144 CrPC in West Khasi Hills, Shillong

Shillong: The Additional District Magistrate, West Khasi Hills District, Nongstoin has promulgated an order under section 144CrPC prohibiting any person organization, clan or group of people from poisoning, destroying the river, fishes and aquatic life in an around the river Rambrai, River Khri and the tributaries flowing into Kyrshai River and all over West Khasi Hills district.

Violating this order will be prosecuted under section 188 of the Indian penal code, 1860 under specific probation of the relevant rule Acts, orders such as the Environment Acts 1986, Air act 1981, water Act 1974 and the NGT order dated August, 5th 2013. The restriction has come into force until further orders. However, any one aggrieved by the order may approach the competent authority. This has been stated in a press release.
