SHILLONG: Senior political leader of the United Democratic Party (UDP) and former Speaker of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Bindo M Lanong has said that a meeting will soon be held with the MDA government to discuss the issue concerning the vacant MLA seat at Shella constituency.
“We will hold discussions with our partners in the MDA government led by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma to support the UDP in the by-election at Shella once the date is announced by the Election Commission of India,” he said, while speaking to The Sentinel.
It may be mentioned that in the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) coalition government led by NPP with 21 MLAs there are also other regional parties supporting the government including the UDP with seven legislators and two each of the HSPDP, and the BJP along with two Independent MLAs.
He said that if the partners within the MDA government support the UDP it will show unity and be a mark of respect for late Dr Donkupar Roy.
He also said that there will also be discussions with Shella UDP MDC and present CEM of KHADC Teinwell Dkhar, UDP MDC and Executive Member (EM) Land, Titoswell Chyne along with the family members of Dr. Donkupar Roy and party leaders and workers of the constituency to take a decision on a suitable candidate to contest the polls.
When asked, Bindo M Lanong said that he does not have any knowledge if the two MDCs (Teinwell Dkhar and Titoswell Chyne) have any intention to contest the by-election from Shella constituency.
