Shillong: Troops of the 97 Bn BSF (Border Security Force) seized 30 cattle cramped in a truck almost 2 km away from the Sonapur mobile check post in East Jaintia Hills on January 8. The seizure is worth more than Rs 12 lakh, stated a release

Observing a suspicious truck loaded with bovines, the BSF troops tried to stop the truck. But the truck driver did not pay any heed and crossed the check post with heavy acceleration. The BSF troops pursued and seized the cattle and also apprehended an Indian national from the truck. However, the driver managed to flee

The cattle tethered tightly with rope were likely to be smuggled to Bangladesh since they were marked with a code on them.

The seized cattle, apprehended person and the truck were handed over to Lumshnong Police Station, East jaintia Hills for further disposal, added the release.

BSF DIG (PRO) U.K. Nayal said, "The BSF is making its best efforts to curb smuggling activities on International Border; and these efforts will continue.''

MEDICAL CAMP HELD AT TURA: The 75 Bn BSF organized a free medical camp under 'Civic Action' here on Thursday. The programme was inaugurated and chaired by S.K. Sharma , DIG BSF Tura in the presence of other BSF officers and local population.

More than 400 villagers from the villages of Baburambil, Dalu, jatrakona, Nagrajora, Demapara and kadamboka attended the event. Hand sanitizers, disposable hand gloves, waste compost machines etc., were distributed.

The medical staff lead by Dr. S.K. Sharma, CMO/SG medically examined the villagers and provided them the medicines.

DIG PRO BSF Meghalaya, U.K. Nayal assured to continue such efforts in future also, stated a release.
