Shillong:
The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) has decided to go for a
massive protest against the delay in implementing the 'Inner Line Permit' (ILP)
and the 'Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security (Amendment) Bill
(MRSSAB)-2020'. The decision was taken at a meeting of its central executive
council (CEC) here recently.
"We have been compelled to protest to pressurize the Centre and the State governments for immediate implementation of the ILP and for the Governor to give his assent to the MRSSAB, 2020," said HYC president Robertjune Kharjahrin.
Stating that the protest would also be to oppose implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in the State, Kharjahrin said that the HYC would also continue to work together with the other NGOs under the banner of the Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organizations (CoMSO) to ensure that ILP and MRSSAB-2020 are implemented in the State.
Meanwhile, the HYC has also decided to aggressively pursue with the State government for resolving the boundary dispute with Assam, relocation of the Sweeper's colony from Them Iew Mawlong and inclusion of Khasi language in the Eighth Schedule to the Constitution of India.
According to Kharjahrin, the HYC would also keep a close watch so that the amendment of the Sixth Schedule will not affect the interest and welfare of the indigenous people in the State.
