Guwahati: Due to the detection of more COVID-19 patients, several areas in the Meghalaya capital of Shillong have been declared as Containment Areas.

Due to the detection of COVID-19 cases/high-risk contacts in a complex at Bimola Point, Sweeper Colony, Mawlonghat, the East Khasi Hills DC Matsiewdor War Nongbri, in an order issued on 20th August 2020, has declared Naz Hotel and Grace Hotel complex as containment areas with immediate effect.

Nongbri, at the same time, has declared several more houses and buildings as Containment Areas to prevent an outbreak of the Wuhan-originating virus.

These houses and buildings are of Smti S. Syiem at New Kench's Trace, Smti D. Lamin, Riat Laban East, Madan Laban, Shri L. B. Rapthap, opposite Benz Residency, Central Bishnupur, Shri Nirbor Kharkongor, and Smti Rikynti Kharkongor, Mynsain Neng, Upper Lumparing.

In a related development, the DC also issued a fresh order to retain only Lovely Store at Malki Point, Malki, and the house of Martian Mawthoh at Riat Bharat, Malki Nongshiliang as containment areas.

Two more compounds -- Rana Compound and Md. Salim Compound at Lower Mawprem -- have also been tagged as containment areas.

To minimize the chances of COVID-19 transmission, the house of Smti B. Dkhar, Amjad Ali Road, Laban, and building of Smti Berina Shabong (Lumpdeng) Lawsohtun Block II also placed under containment.

"There has been a recent high risk and low-risk contact with the COVID-19 positive cases, vulnerable and affected areas require aggressive contact tracing, quarantine, testing and isolation as well as containment in the interest of the health of general public against any possible spread of COVID-19," Nongbri said in an order issued on Thursday.

These orders restrict unregulated movement and exit movement in the affected areas which require "aggressive contact tracing, quarantine, testing, and isolation as well as containment in the interest of the health of the general public against any possible spread of COVID-19."
