SHILLONG: The Sikh community here has started preparing beds and oxygen cylinders for COVID-19 patients, in case the situation turns critical in Meghalaya. The oxygen and beds are being prepared at the Sikh Centre Sri Guru Singh Sabha located near Raj Bhavan here.
The State has withnessed more than 100 cases each day; and, in the past couple of days the tally rose to 200-plus cases.
Speaking to The Sentinel, Dr. H Singh said, ''We are setting up this centre for emergency purpose. Presently, the Centre has 15 beds and oxygen cylinders for COVID-19 patients. Their numbers will be upgraded in the coming days.
When asked, he said, ''The Sikh community is always there to help the public and the government.
''The present endeavour is being solely funded by the Gurudwara. However, we hope that many will come forward and contribute to the cause in the future.''
Dr Singh also pointed out that during the lockdown period last year, the Gurudwara lent a helping hand in providing food to the people with the help of donations from the public.
PROTOCOL VIOLATION: Despite restrictions put in place by the district administration to curb the movement of the general public and private vehicles from May 1 to 10, several private vehicles and two wheelers were plying in the city roads on Saturday.
Many persons were also seen roaming in a crefree manner in different parts of the city, without proper pass.
There were, however, reports that in some part of the city, traffic personal chased away the private vehicles and also asked the persons in the vehicles to stay off the road.
