Shillong’s Police Bazar To Soon Become No-Honking Zone

SHILLONG: Paul Lyngdoh, the minister in charge of tourism, visited Khyndailad (Police Bazaar) in Shillong, Meghalaya, with the intention of designating the area as a no-honking and pedestrian-only zone.

The quantity of horn honking or screaming in the state, particularly in front of hospitals, has grown to be a serious issue that needs to be addressed, according to the minister. Pedestrian freedom is restricted in Shillong, according to Lyngdoh, who also highlighted that the area has turned too noisy.

When asked if putting the plan into action would be difficult, Lyngdoh responded that as long as one is genuine about it, every task is possible . "Can you hear the amount of honking? As a result, neither you nor I can actually hear what you are saying”, he said.

The Minister emphasized that problems will always occur hence solutions must be found.

Alexander Hek, a cabinet minister, opened the first fast-charging station for electric vehicles (EVs) at the Jorabat, Ri Bhoi District, BPCL outlet.

AL Hek praised the BPCL for taking the initiative to introduce this first-of-its-kind EV charging station in the state, noting that doing so will significantly cut pollution there.

He added that because Meghalaya is a popular tourist destination, this move will greatly benefit the environment and promote travel to the state of Meghalaya, especially for visitors from other countries who are concerned about their health and the environment.

In the meantime, 17 additional EV charging stations have been introduced by the firm at three significant highway corridors: Guwahati to North Lakhimpur, Guwahati to Serampore, and Guwahati to Dibrugarh, according to Pankaj Das, State Head Retail of BPCL North East.

Additionally, he mentioned that the BPCL has just opened the first EV charging station in Meghalaya at Jorabat and that, in addition to Silchar in Assam and Aizawl in Mizoram, the business would soon expand this service to Nongpoh, Mawiong, Shillong, and Jowai in Meghalaya.
