Shutdown in Meghalaya: No COVID positive case detected so far

SHILLONG: Meghalaya witnessed another day of a shutdown to stop the spread of COVID-19. However, the State has not recorded any case of COVID-19 so far.

During the shutdown shops, business establishments were shut. The streets also saw less number of vehicles and most people choose to stay indoors. Schools are already shut till March 31.

Government offices functioned with an overall strength of 30 per cent.

Banks functioned with restrictions and transactions related to cash deposits and withdrawals will take place everyday from 10 am to 2 pm.

The government has asked banks to follow strictly social distancing and sanitizing offices and rooms where ATM machines are installed.

It may be mentioned that the self imposed lockdown which started from Monday 10 pm will continue till 5 am of March 26.

On March 26, restrictions will he eased for the people to buy essential items. On that day, authorities will create more markets in Shillong city and outskirts as the State’s largest market Ïewduh has been closed indefinitely.

The lockdown would again become into effect on March 27, 28 and 29.

On the days of the shutdown, inter-district private transport will be closed, but movement of private vehicles in Shillong city will be restricted to odd and even numbers on alternate days.

On March 24, 26, and 28, private vehicles with ‘odd numbers’ can ply while vehicles with ‘even numbers’ will ply on March 25, 27 and 29.

The Meghalaya government has also banned entry of people from outside the State as well as operation of inter-state public transport like buses, and tourist taxis till March 31.
