SHILLONG: It’s a great achievement and proud moment for the Office of the District Medical & Health Officer & National Health Mission, East Khasi Hills District, after the Sohra Community Health Centre (CHC) was made operational as the First Referral Unit (FRU) with the hard work, dedication and able leadership of Dr. Khraw Kharnaior, Obstetrics & Gynecology Specialist with the support of other Medical Officers, Nursing staffs and other staffs as well.
Now, Sohra CHC is providing services for conducting Caesarean section delivery & tubectomy
operation. The CHC also has a Licensed Blood Storage Unit.
The First caesarean section delivery was conducted at Sohra CHC on November 15, 2019. Till date six Caesarean section deliveries and 22 Tubectomy cases conducted have been conducted in the CHC.
Now people from Sohra and adjoining areas, who require the above services, easily visit Sohra CHC instead of travelling all the way to Shillong. This has also saved money for the patient and family members. At the same time, it has also reduced the work load at Ganesh Das Hospital, Shillong.
Among the facilities and services available at the Sohra CHC are Labour room, Operation Theatre, Blood Storage Unit, NCD Clinic, MCH & FW Clinic, Adolescent Friendly Health Clinic (AFHC), Lab Services, OPD & IPD services and implementation of National Health Programme.
The infrastructure upgradation, equipments at the CHC and trainings for the doctors and staffs were funded and supported jointly by the National Health Mission and the State Government.
