SHILONG: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said that his government has taken note of the menace of drugs in the State and had asked the police to take action. “It is because of the police action and because of the orders given by us that these activities are really now being monitored,” Conrad K Sangma said. “This kind of situation has been prevailing for many years. It never came out since there was no action taken and there was no concerted efforts on those lines,” he pointed out.

Meanwhile, on the issue of human trafficking, Conrad said his government will take an aggressive stand against it. The Chief Minister said that his government was not going to take this issue very lightly.

“A lot of intelligence has been collected in the past few months and after which we decided that we will go aggressively about it...let things happen and more things will come up,” he stated.

Conrad said that the issue of human trafficking is a cross-border matter which really needs to be taken up at the regional level.

“We have mentioned this at the different levels to the bureaucrats in Delhi and even at the political level. Maybe in weeks or months we may have a joint discussion on this,” Conrad added.
