There is no Restriction Being put on Consuming Beef: BJP Meghalaya Chief

SHILLONG: The political scenario is heating up in the state of Meghalaya ahead of the assembly polls that are dated for February 27. As the political leaders of the major party are busy engaging in verbal wars with each other, the Bharatiya Janata Party Chief of Meghalaya has given a very controversial statement, which might woo the voters of the Northeastern state, but it will definitely hurt some of the heavyweights of the party.

Controversies around the consumption of beef have been no new topic in the country. But Bharatiya Janata Party’s state president for Meghalaya Ernest Mawrie in an interview claimed that his party does not have any restrictions towards the consumption of beef has definitely stirred the pot. He went forward to mention that his party does not have anything to do with the caste, creed or religion of the public.

“It has been nine years since the BJP came to power at the Centre, and we have not seen any Church under attack. There is no restriction being put on consuming beef too. I eat beef and I am in BJP, there is absolutely no problem with this. I am assuring you that the people of Meghalaya are with the BJP this time.” he mentioned while answering a question about the Christian majority in the state of Meghalaya as mentioned by The New Indian Express.

The polling campaign for the Bharatiya Janta Party is in a full swing in the hill state. Several central leaders including party president Jagat Prakash Nadda and Union Home Minister Amit Shah already visiting the state and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit is scheduled for later this week. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has also been taking part in multiple election rallies for various candidates in both Meghalaya and Nagaland.

People across the state of Meghalaya will vote on February 20 and counting will take place on March 2.
