Top Priority To Education: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma

SHILLONG: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has said that the Government accords top priority to the education sector while addressing the gathering of ad hoc teachers from across the State at Malki in Shillong on Wednesday.

While acknowledging the difficulties and hardships being faced by the ad hoc teachers and others employed in the education sector, he reiterated the Government’s commitment to address and resolve the issues at the earliest.

“The Government is aware of the challenges being faced by the teaching community due to the limited financial resources in terms of the salaries that they get. The Government is working earnestly to address these issues”, he said while further adding that a significant amount of the Government spending has always been earmarked to improve the education sector.

The Chief Minister also informed the gathering that of the amount close to Rs 400 crore, central assistance, received in the past year, is being used to improve the infrastructural facilities of educational institutions in the State.

Calling upon all teachers to work together with the Government for the sake of imparting better education the Chief Minister said that necessary instructions have been forwarded to the State education department to convene a meeting in the coming months, with all teachers, regarding their various demands and to find a solution that is acceptable to all parties.

The Chief Minister also urged all teachers to shoulder their responsibilities as educationists with focus and dedication in order to transform the lives of the students.

The function was also attended by Union Minister of State in charge of Social Justice and Empowerment, Ramdas Athawale.
