SHILLONG: In a joint operation by the 'Anti Narcotic Task Force' (ANTF) and the Meghalaya Police two alleged drug peddlers and a customer were detained and suspected heroin, Rs 45,000 in cash and other materials recovered from their possesion. Acting on a tipoff, the operation took place at Third Mile here in the early hours of Sunday morning.
By that time, the public of the locsality had already gathered at the spot. On conducting body search, a 'golden' tin, four pieces of puria (suspected heroin wrapped in a piece of paper) weighing 0.65 grams, were recovered from the possesion of Manbhalang Dympep (25 years and resident of Laban Last Stop) and cash amounting to Rs 45,000 reportedly from peddling of drugs was recovered from the possession of Pheryl Wahlang (26 years and girlfriend of Dympep.
A customer, Biangbor Nongsiej (24 years and resident of 3rd Mile), was also apprehended. On interrogation by the investigation agencies, Biangbor confessed that he is a drug consumer and had been to that area to buy heroin from them.
A case under NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act) has been registered in this regard.
The ANTF force led by City DSP B Jyrwa comprised Jhalupara Police in-charge SI Wycliff Momin, Sector Officer DSP (Anti Infiltration) SA Marak and Night Supervising Officer Inspector CM Ranee.
