SHILLONG: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma today clarified that the government is committed to the construction of an entry point at Umling, Ri-Bhoi District to check the influx of 'outsiders' entering the State.
The Chief Minister further said, "The reason the old sanction was de-sanctioned was because the time to construct the gate would take about a year to a year and half," said Sangma after the meeting with Deputy CM Prestone Tynsong, Health Minister AL Hek, Sports Minister Banteidor Lyngdoh, C&RD Minister Hamlet Dohling, Excise Minister Kyrmen Shylla and newly inducted Minister Dasakhiat Lamare here on Saturday. "To expedite the entire process, we have sanctioned a new prefabricated structure. It will come up in 60 days," he stated, pointing out, "During these COVID times, registration and testing are compulsory for anybody entering the State. So we are technically following those processes even though the entry/exit point is not yet ready."
