Shillong: In a major boost to the United Democratic Party (UDP), it’s candidate Pius Marwein won the prestigious Langrin constituency seat to the Khasi Hill Autonomous District Council (khadc) by a margin of 6,979 votes.
The win will bolster UDP’s chance of regaining power in the KHADC, an institution that has come under the administrator’s role due to a power tussle and change of allegiance by members of political parties. Counting of votes for the by-election to the KHADC-2020 from 26-Langrin District Council was completed today. The final results: Jotin Khardewsaw (INC) 6,842 votes, Kitborlang Nongrem (NPP) 3,222 votes, Pius Marwein (UDP) 13,821.
Returning Officer of 26-Langrin District Council constituency HS Diengdoh handed over the certificate of election to the winning candidate.
