TURA: The West Garo Hills District Magistrate, Ram Sing, promulgated Section 144 of the CrPC on May 4, thereby temporarily closing all weekly markets in the district from May 5 till May 15.
The order has been issued in view of the rapid spread of the second wave of COVID-19 and the need to prevent mass gathering of people and the need to follow the health protocols.
The traders and businessmen from outside the State have been directed to produce COVID-19 negative certificates issued by the civil hospital, Community Health Centre, Public Health Centre, or other health sub-centres or authorized laboratories. Shop keepers, traders and the general public have been directed to strictly follow the COVID protocols such as wearing of face masks in public places, maintaining social distancing, and to practise hand hygiene, among others.
