WILLIAMNAGAR: The first phase of Jal Shakti Abhiyan campaign in the East Garo Hills culminated with an awareness programme organized by the Williamnagar Municipal Board (WMB) at DRDA Hall on Thursday. A large number of people including the senior citizens participated, stated a press release.
Speaking on the occasion, East Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Swapnil Tembe, asked the people of the region to understand why the Central government started the Jal Shakti Abhiyan campaign and stressed on the importance of water conservation. He also urged the senior citizens of Wiiliamnagar to spread the message of Jal Shakti Abhiyan among their children.
Delivering the welcome and keynote addressing, WMB Chief Executive Officer, Aloysius Ch Marak, informed the gathering that different programmes at different places of the district have been organized by the line departments under the Jal Shakti Abhiyan as the East Garo Hills is one of the 256 selected districts in India. Stressing on the need to keep the water bodies in the district safe and pollution free, he lauded the citizens of Williamnagar for their participation the mega cleaning organized recently by WMB in collaboration with the district administration with an aim to rejuvenate the streams in and around Williamnagar.
