SHILLONG: With 22 new COVID-19 cases registered in Meghalaya on Wednesday, the State's tally rose to 595. The State has recorded nine recoveries: five from East Khasi Hills and four from Ri Bhoi district, taking the total to 339, said Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong.

Of the 22 fresh cases, East Khasi Hills recorded 19 — all of whom are civilians; South West Garo registered two cases from among civilians; and West Garo Hills recorded one case from the Border Security Force (BSF).

As on date, the State has 595 active cases with the majority reported from East Khasi Hills (487 cases with 188 from among BSF personnel, 241 civilians and 58 from the armed forces); Ri-Bhoi: 51; East Jaintia: 17; West Jaintia: 16; West Garo Hills: 15; West Khasi Hills: five; and two each from South West Garo Hills and South Garo Hills.

The number of samples sent for testing till Wednesday are 39,553, with 38, 062 negative cases and the reports of 552 samples are being awaited. A total of 25,588 people have so far entered Meghalaya.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Chief Minister also informed that NEIGHRIMS is working to complete the setting up of a plasma bank for the interest of all the north-eastern States.
