SHILLONG: Meghalaya recorded 56 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours taking the total active cases to 562. Till date, 135 persons have recovered from the virus. On Sunday alone, 41 patients recovered in East Khasi Hills. While 39 are BSF personnel, two are civilians, informed Director of Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman Warr.
Meanwhile, of the 37 new cases in East Khasi Hills, 23 are from the BSF, four from the armed forces and nine are civilians. West Khasi Hills has reported three cases; Ri-Bhoi nine (armed forces: four and civilians: five); East Jaintia Hills: five; and one case each was reported from North Garo Hills and West Jaintia Hills.
Of the five new cases in East Jaintia Hills, while four are contacts of a person who had tested positive during random testing, one is a staffer of Pamra Paithlu PHC. "We are now finding out as to how this person gor infected," Dr Warr said.
The new patient in West Jaintia Hills is a returnee from Assam. In West Khasi Hills, of the three recorded cases, one is a returnee from Assam and two are returnees from Delhi — all of them are personnel of the Meghalaya Police force. Of the nine new cases in Ri-Bhoi district, five are armed forces personnel at Rangmen, three are civilians who returned from Assam and one is an attendant at RP Chest Hospital, Shillong. The one positive case recorded from North Garo Hills is that of an employee of the Meghalaya Electricity Corporation Limited who had returned from Assam.
Of the 37 new cases in East Khasi Hills, 23 are BSF personnel, two of whom returned before July 23 to the State; four are armed forces personnel, and the rest are from Umpling while a CRPF personnel is a returnee. Of the civilians in East Khasi Hills, four are returnees, two each from Assam and Bihar and three are contacts of a staff nurse working at NEIGRIHMS who are residents of Marbisu, one is a contact of a positive case in Mawpat and another is positive case from Laitumkhrah.
