SHILLONG: Senior Congress legislator and leader of Opposition, Dr Mukul Sangma has refuted reports that he and along with 12 of his colleagues are leaving the party even as he admitted that grievances are there.

Speaking to newsmen in his official residence on Friday evening, Dr. Sangma said that he has been invited to Delhi and will proceed there on Sunday.

"Today, I have also received the indication as to when the sitting can be likely; and therefore tomorrow we have the Pradesh election committee meeting for the candidates to the bye-elections. Sunday is the likely day when I should travel," said the leader of Opposition.

While admitting that there are grievances within the party and in fact some of them are already victim of those, the leader of Opposition pointed out that Congress Member of District Council from Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council, Lamphrang Blah is leaving the party to contest the Mawphlang bye-election on a National People's Party ticket.

"So these are indications…these are tip of the iceberg. Therefore we want to resolve them at the appropriate time… meaning well ahead of the election," added Dr Sangma.

The Meghalaya Assembly goes to election in February 2023.

He also said that challenges are always there and resolving issues requires certain amount of patience.

Dr. Sangma expressed optimism that all those factors which are required to ultimately arrive at finding a resolution then it will end within the four walls of the party.

It may be mentioned that the former Chief Minister of the state, Mukul Sangma is likely to join the Trinamool Congress along with a dozen of Congress MLAs soon.

Sources said that around 13 Congress MLAs are likely to join TMC along with Dr. Sangma.

Earlier it was speculated that Dr. Sangma met TMC, MP and the party's general secretary, Abhishek Banerjee on September 21.

However, party sources say that the two are yet to have a meeting.
