2 Women Held With Heroin Worth Rs 60 Lakh In Mizoram

AIZAWL: The Assam Rifles intercepted a smuggling attempt and detained two women. The cops confiscated heroin worth Rs 60 lakh from Aizawl during the process.

Based on specific intelligence, the Assam Rifles and the Special Narcotics Police Station CID (crime), Aizawl conducted a joint operation in the Sateek neighborhood on Monday.

Nine soap cases (120 grams) of heroin (No. 4) worth Rs 60 lakh were seized during the operation. One of the two women who have been arrested is a citizen of Myanmar, according to Assam Rifles.

The confiscated consignment and the arrested individuals were presented in the Special Narcotics Police Station CID (Crime), Aizawl, for further legal proceedings.

At Tanhril, in Mizoram's Aizawl, two people were earlier apprehended on March 12, and weapons and ammunition were found in their possession. The two people detained have been identified by the police as Indu Bikas, 30, of Silsuri, and Lalhmangaihzuala, 45, of Chawngte.

The CID (Special Branch) action squad of the Mizoram Police located one AK-47 (manufactured in China) and one magazine in the illegal possession of the two people in Tanhril after acting on a specific tip.

The accused pair as well as the seized goods were delivered to the Vaivakawn police department. According to the police, the Indian Criminal Code (IPC) sections 25(1A) and 25(1AA)/29 Arms Act r/w 120B have also been recorded for further inquiry.

N. Biren Singh, the chief minister of Manipur, has issued a warning to anyone engaged in the production of illegal drugs or poppy plants. Strong action would be taken against anybody found engaging in illicit activity, according to CM Singh.

Singh stressed that the government will not, under any circumstances, compromise in the fight against drugs.

Two people, 20.27 kg of poppy seeds, four unregistered Kenbo bikes built in Myanmar, and two single-barreled firearms were seized on Saturday from Old Boljang village in the Lhungtin subdivision, according to CM Biren Singh.

Ngamginsei Singson (20) and Lelen Khongsai (32) have been named as the two people detained.

"Our administration faces a serious problem as a result of these illicit operations. We ask people to stop engaging in such criminal activity," CM Singh said.
