Aizawl Faces Fuel Shortage as Landslide Cuts off Essential Supplies

AIZAWL: Parts of the northeastern state of Mizoram are now facing a scarcity of fuel as the supplies have not reached the state capital because of a landslide. The state capital Aizawl is also facing the same fuel crunch.

A major landslide in the Vaivakawn locality of Aizawl on the National Highway 54 caused the important route to get blocked. And this has prevented important supplies including fuel from reaching the city according to the officials of the civil supplies department of the state.

The minister of disaster management for the state of Mizoram, Lalchamliana mentioned that the huge landslide has affected many people in the state. He also announced that a meeting will be organised between the concerned departments of the state and will seek support from the National Disaster Management Authority regarding the solution to the problem.

The magnitude of the landslide has proven it difficult even for the excavators to clear the debris. And the continuous rains have triggered more landslides in the vicinity creating even more difficulty. The same has affected the power transmission lines and the water supply lines passing through the area causing other problems in the vicinity of the landslide. A large number of tankers and heavy trucks have been stuck in the pileup of vehicles caused by the natural disaster.

The local administration had also relocated multiple families from the locality to safer locations. One building was dismantled because of the landslide.

In a different incident, a huge boulder that fell and crushed three cars on the Kohima-Dimapur National Highway during a landslide in the midst of intense rains left two persons dead and three more hurt. On Tuesday evening, around five o'clock, this tragedy occurred in the Chumoukedima area of Nagaland. A large rock striking two cars one after the other is captured in a viral video of the incident. Both cars were severely damaged and crumpled. Another boulder can be seen in the video smashing into a car in front of the other two vehicles. On its left, a truck was struck by the car.
