GUWAHATI: As per reports, Assam Rifles to increase security till the 510-km stretch of the India-Myanmar border to prevent illegal immigration from the neighboring countries. Regarding the matter, Assam Rifles have expressed concern about the matter. They said that the rising crime case, which includes murder cases resulted in Myanmarese people, taking shelter in northeastern states.
An Assam Rifles official stated here on Tuesday that "we will stop the majority of crossings along the Indo-Myanmar border to prevent illegal influx which is hampering the law and order situation in Mizoram."
According to the official, Myanmar nationals were recently suspected of killing three Mizoram citizens on the Myanmar side next to the Siaha district in south Mizoram and one in Serchhip.
Bangladesh and Mizoram have a 318-kilometer shared border, which is patrolled by the Border Security Force (BSF).
After the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Home Affairs and the state government, the Assam Rifles, the main paramilitary force, will move its battalion headquarters from the centre of Aizawl to Zokhawsang gradually, according to another official. The distance from the state capital to Zokhawsang is 15 kilometres. He stated that the MoU is being prepared and that there is currently no timetable for the relocation.
On the other hand, on 21st April 2023, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma and Arunachal Pradesh CM Pema Khandu signed a border pact ending a 51-year-old dispute between the two states.
Since the latter was designated a union territory in 1972, there has been a boundary dispute between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh along its 804.1 km length. Arunachal Pradesh became a state in 1987, and following the signing of an agreement between the two states, 123 villages located near shared territory between the two states have been settled.
