AIZAWL: The Lunglei Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of Inspector General Assam Rifles (East), conducted a lecture on Anti-Tobacco Day at Parva-II village of Mizoram on Thursday.

According to a press release, a total of 25 local residents attended the lecture, the aim of which was to spread awareness amongst local people about the damage caused by consuming tobacco. Consuming tobacco kills over 80 lakh people across the world every year.

The local people were happy and expressed their gratitude for the initiative taken by Assam Rifles.

Meanwhile, the Aizawl Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of Inspector General Assam Rifles (East) has been conducting a four-week-long 'Hindi Communicative Language Class' programme at the Battalion Headquarters in Aizawl from May 23.

A total of 31 civilians have enrolled in the programme so far.

Considering the accrued benefits of the Hindi language in India and other countries, the Aizawl Battalion initiated the programme to enhance the communicative and interactive skills in Hindi language and to enhance employability of Mizo youths outside Mizoram. Another aim of the programme is to impart knowledge about the cultural and traditional values of Hindi-speaking regions. In order to achieve the objective, interactive sessions are being held, such as screening of Hindi movies every week, group discussion in Hindi on topics of national interest, extempore speeches and story reading.
